It didnt stop Sarah Michelle Gellar from doing it in OMWF. Seriously the lack of professional talent in that episode is obvious despite fine perfeormaces by everyone in the cast. Its so obvious that the professional voices in the group Tony Head and Amber Benson really shine.
So don't worry if you can sing or not. Don't sweat being musical. If you can't pen a lyric to an existing song, then write a poem and say you are singing it. We will just have to imagine the tune.
If you don't want to do that much have a chapter where you have a "musical encounter" either a concert or a dance where music is pounding in the background.
The point of this is to stretch us...challenge us as writers. Make the music feature in the post prominantly. Nick (okay, i have evoked the evil one...but bear with me) used music quite effectively in his posts and all he did was cut and paste lyrics around his writing. Any of you can do the same.
The trick is finding a lyric that fits the scene. And if no one song really strikes you, then you get to write one. Now it would be fun if we could bring back Sweet and have our own 'true' musical numbers...but frankly the format we've chosen doesn't really lend itself to that.
So...instead of bellyaching about how "I can't" or "That's not me" try opening yourself to the possibilities. You never know you might surprise yourselves.

Really wild idea that came to my head
Hey! I just came back from.. "Youth Retreat" (Christian stuff) and I've missed what was going on...
Anyways, For a whole week, I did not listen to "Buffy the Musical". I missed it a lot. When I came back. I listened to "Buffy the Musical" and this idea popped into my head. (I hope it won't suck, but what I always thought of.. sucks..)
Anyways, this idea I am having.... We can have this.. special thing where.. we get involved in something musical (You know... write our own songs for the characters and such).... Or, we can do this.. collaboration to write this.. musical thing...
(I am not good at explaining, so I hope you understand. And, I have no idea what was going on this week.. so someone tell me??)

Well there you go Drew - it's not a totally wild and crazy notion as you thought - since the popularity of 'Once More With Feeling' there has been a lot of discussion (serious and not so seroious) over the possibility of a Musical LABN episode.
There is obviously alot of musical talent out there - see Alice and Hannah's Musical Parodies! :D
I think it would be really fun to do if we could work it into season 2 or maybe do it in the NEXT midseason....

Actually next midseason would be better. This season is Jam packed with subplots and ideas and there is no need to overload the plate. I LOVE the idea of a musical LABN and would like to do it.
So...right now I say we nominate Midseason 2 as "The Musical" and set the idea that each character will have at least ONE musical number (or more if the mood strikes you) sometime during midseason.
If you want to write something original by all means go ahead. BUt more likely we will be writing "filk" songs instead. So start looking for those MIDI and MP3 files so you can email them to me for linkng to the posts.
Midseason 2 starts on or near January 6th so you have plenty of time!
