Grig Derringer's picture

Name: Grig Derringer
Race: Human
Gender: Male

Light/Dark Ratio: 8/10

Description: Derringer is a human male, about 5'9. He has jet black hair, cut to something close to Imperial standards despite his presumptive civilian status. He is approximately 33 standard years old, although he does look somewhat older.

Personality: Most of the time, Grig Derringer is calm, methodical, and not too tempermental. He gets done what he wants/needs to, and he does it without too much fuss. However, there are also the times somebody gets him angry, and he does get angry.

When this happens, other things do. If he's only mildly annoyed, paperwork vanishes and that secret message he sent you over the holos attacking his boss randomly winds up with his superior. If he gets really angry...well, there are a few Separtists who found that out. Needless to say, that doesn't happen much.

Despite all of this, his good/bad feelings have kept him from making too many enemies...he usually just shunts the blame to someone else who isn't doing their job.

Homeworld: Coruscant for all intents and purposes.

History: Grig Derringer is a son-of-a-Senator. His father was a senator from an obscure Outer Rim world. Reappointed repeatedly, he ended up raising his family on Coruscant. As a result, Garim has only seen his homeworld once, on a vacation.

Derringer's father was an early supporter of Chancellor Palpatine, and Derringer a few minor benefits from this. Foremost among these was a commission in the Republic Army prior to the Clone Wars. Derringer served in the military through nearly the end of the Clone Wars, though his father got him transferred to an administrative position during the last year of the war.

His time in the military, nearly 8 years in all, made him extremely cynical about the Republic, as did his general knowledge of the Senate. This was brought on both by way of constantly being forced to cut through thick red tape to get anything done, the fact that the Senate was often paralyzed by infighting, and by hearing about the bribery going on, both through the rumor mill and through his father. Although still a supporter of the Republic (and an even more vigorous opponent of the Separtists), he was less and less a believer in its ideals.

His father died less than a year after the Clone Wars started of old age and illness, leaving Derringer on his own. Somewhat less bound by his father's Senatorial position, he became somewhat overly vigorous in his support of the prosecution of the war. This came to a head in an incident which, though only rumors survived of it, he was rumored to have killed several Separtist agents he was supposed to capture, though the official reports listed them as being "caught in the crossfire and unable to be detained".

Derringer left the military a few weeks prior to the end of the Clone Wars, at the end of his enlistment. He remained strongly associated with the government, however, and in the wake of the Jedi Rebellion, he was made an assistant to a planetary governor in the Outer Rim. Reassigned after roughly two years in this position, he is now on Vorgrell.

Items: Blaster
Abilities: Derringer can shoot fairly well, and he knows how to get around lots of rules to get done what he wants to.
Force Powers: Limited to the occasional "bad feeling" or "good feeling" about something, usually about someone.

Actor: James Marsters

Note: I am well aware that he shares the same first name of a prominent NPC.

I like what you have so far, but I would like to see some aspects fleshed out a little more. For example, his proximity to the Senate and his experiences in the army made him cynical about the Republic... how? What aspects of the Republic does he question and what events did he witness/take part in that caused him to question the Republic? Another important question to think about, given the situation on Vorgrell, is Derringer's position on the Empire. He was/is a strong supporter of the Republic, so he must an opinion on its transformation into a totalitarian regime, good or bad.

If Derringer is intended to be assigned to assist the Empire in administering the planet, you'll certain have some interesting angles to work with. My character, for example ;)

Also, I kind of like that he has the same first name as Capt. Morriss. It has an air of reality about it, like having two guys named Jack at the same party ;)

Interestingly enough (and I'll comment more later), I was chatting about it with him last night. Turns out that he picked the wrong first name... he meant Grig, so we could confused him with Commander Harkness.

Another thing that could allow interesting ideas - he was recalled from the previous position. How? Why? And why did he get reassigned to Vorgrell? Did he just piss someone off, and get transfered to Vorgrell as a "backwater punishment assignment" (we're closer to the Outer Rim than Inner)? Or was he on the Outer Rim before, and this is more of a promotion for him?

And John... there's an actor list out somewhere in Private Discussion that you should probably check out. I have to add one or two people to it, but knowing you, that won't be a problem.

This is a promotion, of sorts. He had a desk job before, and while I was going to say he was sitting on a shelf in Coruscant, he might end up having been dealing with war administration as well.

As far as being a supporter of the Republic and becoming cynical about it...there was the red tape, the inability of the Senate to do anything, an occasional chat with his father hearing about who was bribing who. The fact of the matter is that when Palpatine becan jamming things through the Senate, he was extremely happy.

He's a fairly strong supporter of the New Order, though he's an Imperial ideologue rather than being simply power-hungry. He's pretty intelligent...he just sat through enough time dealing with Republic bureaucracy and corruption to know that it was not working. As a result, though he does separate the wheat from the chaff in political rhetoric, he actually believes in the Empire.

I like him.

Mmm, pretty laconic, huh?

Ok, a question. Will you change the name back to Grig?

Now you have to change your user's name, John. And if you could pick an actor to play Grig it'd be great, makes picturing him easier.

Welcome onboard!!!
