Where in the UK should the 2005 CP be held?

Hey, I'm hoping I'll be able to afford it. Main thing is finding new work first; I do that, I ought to be able to get bills down far enough.

Wow, 10 votes - so 10 people going to the CP. :D It's going to be enormous! :D :D

Let me see...

Me, Dave, Robin, Lou, Jamie, Matt, Shaun, Amanda and Sherlynn I know about for sure. Saadia is the 10th?

What about you, Adam? You've mentioned on msn that you might be coming, but you've not said anything in any of the threads about a yay or nay. C'mon, it'll be fun. :)

My niece is visiting us for Christmas, and she's just spent the last 6 months living in London (and in fact will be there for another year or so).

She says if we're going to do London, she highly recommends the south of London as the best place to stay, rather than bang in the middle of town. Still plenty to see and do and rather less expensive than central or western London, not dodgy like east London and not grotty like north London.

Perhaps we could have the cp not right smack bam in the MIDDLE of London, but somewhere just outside? There's just so much more to see and do.

I agree that countryside is tre cool, but on the whole *drops to a whisper* it can get a little boring *beams* But that's why roadtrips become so great  The boringness aint so boring, cos you're with good company and only passing through natures boring beauty shoving arms across peoples faces and screaming "LOOK AT THE VIEW! LOOK AT THE VIEW!" until it becomes too dangerous and you nearly run right off the road you should really be watching cos its fucken BENDY, PEOPLE! AND HELLO? FUCKEN CLIFFSIDE! would rather not run off the edge, thank you  hehe (beware the windows on sharp curves, beware the windows on sharp curves... at least heather's sharp curves: WEEEEEEE - WEEEEEEE - WEEEEEEE!!!)

ok, am not crazy. i swears it.

I'm not an Anglophile (it just doesn't seem foreign enough) so I don't really care – much. Though I would prefer countryside to city.

The idea of renting a big something or other for the duration does appeal, though. Can't we do Italy like in "Enchanted April?" I'll even be Mrs. Arbuthnot.

Ack, and after all that I can't find the offer that I was looking at :? Maybe there was some dodgy clause in the small print that I didn't see cos I agree it is a DAMN good price. Anyway I agree about the extra research being needed, but I think the sad fact is that your US and Aussie $$$ won't be worth as much over here anyway so expect less for your hard earned dosh.

One thought that I did have if we didn't have the CP in London and it of course largely depends on WHERE it will be. If maybe it was out in the sticks we could club together and rent a place for a few days if that's how long the CP's usually last.

Just throwing some ideas out there, I'd really like to go to London 'cos I've not been for a while but for me the most important thing is meeting up with y'all so I don't really mind THAT much.

Ah. Quite. Sorry about that, I stand corrected.

Well, in that case, that's a bloody GOOD rate for a 4-star hotel. :)

Actually if you read what I wrote you'll see that price was quoted for SEVEN days (ie a week), not just one :D

Actually that's crap Jamie, I've checked some of the internet sites and you can stay in a four star hotel in London next July for a week for under a £90 that's based on one person per room so if you could share that'd be even cheaper. These were really swanky hotels too, so if that was too much we could look at something cheaper, and there are a load of B&B's which look lovely and are very reasonably priced.

When I first read this post something niggled at the back of my mind, but it's just been now that I was able to check and make sure. I don't know what hotel prices are like in general in the UK, but when you convert pounds to US dollars and Australian dollars, that £90 becomes $174 US and $230 Australian. That's a bloody expensive rate per night for a hotel.

In Australia, a good 4-star hotel should cost between $120 and $150 Australian a night (which comes to about $45 to £60). And in the US we've stayed at similar places for around $100 US (which is about £52).

Maybe your family's just very rich? :)

I'm sure we should be able to find good accommodations somewhere in England that won't cost an arm and a leg. I guess some research is in order...

Obviously, only those planning on attending the UK Cast Party should vote. :)

CP 2005 Poll

Heather's picture

Ok, I threatened a poll and here it is. :) Reading through the thread, it looks roughly 50/50 whether people are for or against London, so this will give us the definitive answer. If the majority decision comes down against London, then we'll need to nut out the alternatives, but for now I'm keeping the options simple.
