As an alternative to the open-topped bus, there's always the Duck. :)

As it says:
Experience the thrill of cruising the Thames River and the streets of London on our London Duck Tour! Travel past famous sights including the London Eye, Big Ben, Hyde Park and so much more. Then, you'll be launched into the Thames River for a journey that takes you down the river and back before exiting to continue on your way.

Hehehe, we didn't end up going cause we left it a bit late to start a bus tour, so we went to Westminster Abby and wondered where ever on foot. In the end I was glad, as it started raining and we just ended up pointing and laughing at people we saw that actually went on one of the tours, hehe. They got soaked

Open-topped bus? In September? mwahahaha, okay, it could be good for a larf, but I'd suggest everyone bring their pac-a-macs just in case... :D

Hehe, it's funny you should actually mention that :) I'm about to go on one today, lol. One of our friends have come up from Australia, so we're all going to head out and to a whole big sightseeing trip om the city today

In looking at London tours we have discovered that there are "goings-on" in London the Weekend of the Cast Party.

Sept. 17-18 Mayor’s Thames Festival South Bank Centre, SE1 020 7928 8998. A free public event bringing Londoners together in celebration of the Thames, with lantern parades, carnivals, river races, funfairs, live bands, food stalls and more.

Sept. 17-18 London Open House Weekend 09001 600 061. Venues across the capital such as Lloyds of London and The Guildhall open their doors to the public for one weekend only.

And we have been reading about the Big Bus Company and their 24-hour pass through the city.

What would you all say to a Roving Cast Party Sept 17th on an open-topped bus travelling through London where we could jump off and on as we choose with walking tours and side-trips as we like?

The Big Bus Tickets are UK20.00 for a pass that is good for 24 hours. So if we buy them early in the morning they will be good until late at night (and even into the next morning if you are keen to leave).

Any Takers? Do we have a head count at this point?

I'm going to assume that the general lack of response means that nobody's overly fussed which weekend it is. Since we had to shift our accommodation booking I went ahead and have done so. I picked the first week of our visit to spend in London, so that will place the Cast Party proper in the week of 14th to 19th September (ie the weekend of 17th/18th plus extra days for those who wish to stay longer than just the weekend).

I've moved all the accommodations, so Amanda and Jen now have the Fri/Sat/Sun of 16th to 18th September instead of the old July dates. I'll send Amanda an e-mail as well, since I know she doesn't get a chance to get online too much these days.

Robin, not knowing what days you're free we have moved your booking to the night of Friday 16th Sept. I did warn Cartref House that that particular one might have to change again, and since you only had one night booked it won't be so bad to move if the Friday night is no good for you. (Of course, you could always do a shift swap with someone if necessary. :))

We were pretty lucky in being able to shift the dates fairly smoothly - the only alteration is that instead of a double room (they didn't have one available for the whole 6 nights for us) Dave and I wound up in a twin. Still, they did say they could push the beds together for us, so it's not all bad.

Hmmm...I'm not sure on both weekends tbh. Its horribly close to me going to uni...so the 24th/25th is probably out due to packing and moving, and the 17th/18th will probably be taken up drinking far too much than is good for me (a, to build up my stamina for uni and b for the last time with my friends down here :()

I'm gonna look into being able to swing either weekend, but its still not looking good :(

London Cast Party - finalising details

Right, tickets are booked.

Dave and I will be in England from the morning of Wednesday 14th September until lunchtime on Tuesday 27th September.

That gives us two possible weekends for the Cast Party. There's the 17th/18th and the 24th/25th. Dave and I plan on spending about a week touring other areas of England, and spending the CP week in London. So the question is - which weekend best suits people for the official 2005 LNG Cast Party? Based on preferences, we'll organise our accommodations accordingly - so we'd like to pin it down sooner rather than later.
