This is not meant to be a forum that you HAVE to do in additional to all you already do for the site. It's for fun, for exploring new worlds and new civilizations. To boldly go...well, you get the gist. Even if you just come here to read what's on everyone else's filthy little mind, that's okay too. You don't HAVE to contribute and it's not meant to drain the energy from the Gameboard in any way. If you find that it's sucking your LABN energy -- put the crack pipe down. Come back when you get the spirit and have finished what you have to do for the Gameboard.
The rules are simple - or at least they are right now.
1. No using LABN characters.
2. No epic journeys. Think short stories. I'm not going to put a page or word limit on it because I want you to let your freak flag fly, but just be mindful of the length. It may be that we'll put a page limit on it later.
3. This is erotica so please don't post stories without a plot and without thought. I don't think anyone here would do that but I'm just sayin... I'll do the pay-per-view for that. Dirty for dirty's sake is not the point.
4. Remember that this is the Buffyverse, so try to include the world we know so well in the story somehow, even if it's just a little bit (see my first Quickie).
5. No nyah, nyahing to the kids who aren't included.
6. Do check out Nerve.com. It's a good template.
That should be about it for now. If you have any ideas, gimme, gimme.

Not even for What If? stories that don't affect the timeline?

Makes sense. But can we do episodic adventures with the same characters? James Bond started off in Playboy. Or does that fall under the category of epic?

I agree.
4. Remember that this is the Buffyverse, so try to include the world we know so well in the story somehow, even if it's just a little bit (see my first Quickie).
So we can use dead and/or real charaters, such as Buffy, Willow, that werewolf chick who seduced Oz, Oz (for that matter), and the rest?
5. No nyah, nyahing to the kids who aren't included.
Aww. Oh, okay. Spoil-sport.
6. Do check out Nerve.com. It's a good template.
Sorta did. I'll go back at a future date.
That should be about it for now. If you have any ideas, gimme, gimme.
Let's write erotica with LABN players in it. "While Sherlynn and Amanda seduced a young altar boy, Dave was busy touching Heather's bare chest...and he said, 'Wooza!'" Heh, I'm only foolin'.

I, uh, kind of already bounced the idea off of Sher. If I remember correctly (and we all know my memory is notoriously rotten), what she said was this - she'll think about it. Personally, I don't see much problem with that, and it saves the trouble of having to come up with new characters all the time.
Oh, and my new name is apparantly D.H. :)
Also very glad to see a general consensus against PWP (Plot? What Plot?) stories. Anyone can write, but it takes time to learn to write well. Even if a few of you have the unfair disadvantage of natural talent.
And uh, Jeff, check out nerve.com. Sher recomended one of the authors there, Lisa Carver. Her stuff really is very good.
Alright, shutting up now, and trading in the halo for devil horns.

Alright, probably going to want to kill me for thinking too much, but have another possible suggestion. Assuming connected series of stories are not verbooten, would like to recomend that, if you think you're going to start a connected series, the series get its own thread. Would make it easier to follow than, say, just one or two threads full of stories all randomly thrown together.
<<< Rules? What Rules >>>
You're not thinking too much, D.H. I'm actually a bit ahead of you.
I was going to suggest that if you want to use only one a character to send through various erotic adventures, perhaps that character can have its own thread -- a la some of the erotica Ann Rice writes or even (oooohhh) The Story of O, which as I remember was somewhat episodic.
Hmmmm...
<<< Rules? What Rules >>>
You know, honestly don't know what to be more spooked by - the fact that you're mentioning Story of O or the fact that I actually have a clue what you're talking about. Bondage erotica is not a requirement, is it? :)
Right, sorry, digressing again, really must cut back on the caffinne levels.
<<< Rules? What Rules >>>
Nope. Not a requirement at all. Whatever tickles your character's fancy, I suspect.
<<< Rules? What Rules >>>
This was actually my suggestion. I'll explain my logic and then you see if you agree or disagree...
What this ammounts to is a closed forum. A sort of "secret" club where only the big boys and girls play. But we are an open community accepting many members under the age of 18.
If we use the same characters in here that we use out there, we are excluding those younsters from something that might affect our character. Something they may or may not ever get the chance to read. So in effect we are operating in secret.
This disrupts the continuity of LABN becasue it creadtres black-holes in the back story.
Thats why I suggested that in order to keep everything above-board we create this space as an isolated place to play and not a place we can hide stuff our characters do.
There is one kind of situation where I can see us using our LABN players here...as an EXTENDED scene. A love scene in the regular game is expanded here with lengthier more erotic descriptions. Just for the adult crowd. A"director's cut" so to speak.
Anyways...that was my thinking.
<<< Rules? What Rules >>>
You explained that before and I agree. We don't want our "secret society" to affect our kiddies.
Is it doable to have a thread for each participant who wants to ? My thinking is:
Quickies Section - 2 page stand alones
Short Story Section -- Stand Alones of any length
Recurring Character stories, 1 for each participant (not character).
Do-able Dave?

There is no limit to the number of topics you can have in a forum. A simple system is when you start a new topic to put some sort of qualifier in the title ie: "[Short Story] The Night I Drove Old Dixie Down"
which would qulify that as a short story that stands alone without anyone else.
Some suggestions for qualifiers could be drawn from your list...
[Quickies]
[Round Robin]
[Collaboration]
[Free-For-All] or more topically [Orgy]
then people know what they can or can't post in.
Anything that doesn't have a qualifier on it isn't a story so is open to post.
second option is another forum. THis one for discussion and such. Another for Stories and such.
Last item: Put a distinct ending on your story. A "The End" or a "--Fine--" or something. That way the Moderator Sherl can lock that story after a couple of days to keep it safe.
<<< Rules? What Rules >>>
I understand why we'd want to limit erotica with our LABN characters to "extended scenes." However, is there any harm in those What If? adventures? Really, these are adventures that never happen. Why would that matter?
Truth be told, I can't imagine writing Sam erotica. He's just not an erotic personality. But I like to keep my options open.
<<< Rules? What Rules >>>
Dave -- I have to think on this and visualize it. Also, when you're next on line, you'll have to show me how to move stuff and delete stuff and archive stuff. *Mad with power*
<<< Rules? What Rules >>>
That's it. I want my own forum too.
<<< Rules? What Rules >>>
Jeppi,
I think because even a "what if?" colors the attitude and perception of those playing; an advantage or disadvantage those not playing do not have.
Don't get me wrong -- I'm dying to show Parasol get all freaky-deaky. So maybe the idea of outtakes from existing posts is the best way to go.
Sexy Sam. Hmmmm. See, here's the problem. You've chosen Brendan Fraser as your representation and I'd hop him like a cross-town bus. However, relying on writing alone (and closing my imagination to BF), Sam doesn't reek sex -- but those are usually the ones that do the Jungle Love thing -- OO EE OO EE OO.
<<< Rules? What Rules >>>
No, Sam doesn't reek sex. I just watched Still Breathing, and Brendan Frasier can exude romance and sex. But my character's destiny is in no way about sex. it's about love and self-worth.
So you're right.
And you called me Jeppi.
:)
P.S. Loved The Times Jungle Love Reference

Well, I have to say that I'm not sure I'll actually write anything in this forum... which isn't to say I won't be avidly reading anything you guys write.
But, honestly, I am not and never have been a writer. I'm a gamer. The only reason I write for LABN is because that's the medium for the game, and it's the first time I've done any roleplaying that wasn't purely verbal. The thing with verbal gaming is that it's ephemeral... the good moments tend to be remembered (though not all of them) and generally the bad moments are glossed over.
You're forced to think on your feet - and there's no going back and saying "oh, no, I've changed my mind. My character didn't say/do that after all". I suspect that's why my writing style in LABN is very much along those lines. I write in the 'stream of consciousness' and if it doesn't make it on paper (or screen) then and there it tends not to make it at all. That's just the way I'm used to playing.
But this forum isn't a game... it's writing for writing's sake. And I'm afraid I'm just not a writer. Maybe if inspiration strikes I might pen something, but I wouldn't hold your breath, guys.
<<< Rules? What Rules >>>
Wow. Not a writer. Could have fooled me. In fact, you did fool me. But you just gave me an insight into you as a person.
<<< Rules? What Rules >>>
H-
I'll buy that you prefer the gaming forum and rules. I'll buy that you prefer thinking on your feet. I'll even buy that this just isn't your bag.
Won't I won't purchase, no matter how hard the sell, is that you aren't a writer. This especially after the heebie jeebies you gave me with the whole virgin killing thing and now the "Jump Sam, It's Fun" routine.
I hadn't thought about the "gaming" aspect of this site because I don't see it that way and I haven't since I first investigated after I saw Lou's invitation on the 4th of July.
You guys and particularly you Heather because I'm trying to make a point, are writers. The gaming aspect may be first in your mind, but to the casual non-gamer like me, it is most definitely a writer's forum.
