Kevin...aka Ash Crowley. You may remember his character submission a while back. He disappeared mysteriously months ago and I sort of forgot about him.

Then just tonight I found this site:
http://www.pensarn660.fsnet.co.uk/

One glance at the gameboard and I could see what inspired it. Please drop a message on their board to let them know how proud we are that it is working out for them. Nothing shitty, please.

This is a big internet and I applaud anyone who can build a community. I am looking to hear from them regarding cross-linking...we shall see.

I let him know that I was a little dissapointed that he just "disappeared" without so much as a goodbye. Other than that good luck to him

It looks quite good actually... well not as good as LABN of course! But what could? And in such little time! And I mean it is a total rip off... although in a way it's quite flattering that he's used so much of the spirit of this game and its principles to influence his own game (though I don't think you can achieve true freedom until you have battled and overthrown a vile oppressive dictatorship).

Still it would have been nice to have heard from Kevin - at least for him to tell us that he was leaving. And I must say that I was a bit miffed that he didn't even credit LABN for giving him the idea (which it MUST have done) even after all the trouble this game had with it's initial admin we still accredit Nick co. with LABN's creation.

Yes, it is a bit low of him to take the credit himself. Their main page actually goes so far as to state:

Kevin maintains the S:ATOF homepage and makes up the final of three administrators of the boards. Also came up with the original concept for the game, which the players have helped turn into a really enjoyable experience.

But, the minor point of him taking false credit aside, they've made a pretty good go of their version of the game. It's good to see that this concept has a wide appeal, and that a 'sister' site has a thriving game on it.

Though I have to say, I think our policy of ensuring no player ever has the Slayer as a character is borne out by their experiences with attempting just that. :)

Yeah I noticed that the player for the slayer had left on their site, which dramatically impacted on the game because they had lost the major character of their story. That is always the problem with having a centralised figure within any game, at least in LABN all characters are weighted equally. We may break our hearts if one of our players leaves, but it doesn't kill the game in the long run.

Hmm, something interesting...

I revisited their site today to see if anyone had replied to the messages Dave and I left in their "Off Topic" forum - to find that they'd been deleted!

???

Maybe Kevin didn't want it advertised that he'd got the idea from elsewhere... and maybe he didn't want a link to LABN. :? My opinion of him has just degraded several notches.

I felt compelled to try again. I've just left a new message on Kevin's board, http://www.1greeneye.com/boards/index.php

Hopefully this time it'll stay there for a while.

Subject: Unexpected Reaction - Why was our thread deleted?

Kevin? What's the problem? Dave and I left quite reasonable and understanding messages on this board, but I've come on today to see if there were any replies only to find that you've deleted the thread!

Were you upset by us mentioning the fact that you'd taken the idea for this game from Late Night Games - specifically LA By Night? Or was it that you felt guilty for not bothering to tell us that you were leaving LABN and Mythic - leaving us in mid-collaboration without so much as a word?

Either way, I think it shows a lack of maturity that you felt deletion of our posts was the only answer. Are you afraid that other people on your board might check out http://www.latenightgames.com/labynight/index.php and want to move? I doubt it. They have established characters here and a community you've already developed.

As we said, we truly aren't upset about your use of the format and style and idea of LA By Night. The fact that you claimed it was an original idea was a little irksome - it would have been nice to at least have been acknowledged as the inspiration. We on LA By Night still credit Nick and Graham for having started the whole LABN thing happening, even though they are no longer with us. But we're happy to see another successful version of the game running out here. It's a bit like having kids. :)

Kevin, I hope you'll at least show us the courtesy of dropping by to the old haunting grounds some time to leave us a note, or just to say 'hi'. We were sad to have you disappear without trace.

Please, everyone feel free to drop by and visit us at http://www.latenightgames.com/labynight/index.php and have a look around. We've been running for two seasons now, and are currently in our Mid-Season Two break (which isn't so much a break as a change in writing style - more one-off stories rather than a season plotline). We have more than enough players and aren't looking to steal anyone from here, so don't worry on that account, Kevin. :)

Once again ( in case anyone reading this now didn't get to see our first posts before they were deleted), we love what you've done with this site and wish you all the best with your game. We've posted links to this site in LABN so you may get a few visitors over the next while as our members check you out. :)

I just visited the website and i don't much like it :?...fine it is not a bad website and it is kinda good RPG game but something about that website gives me the "go-away-we-don't-like-guests" vibes....

I dunno, its just me and my messed up sixth sense.

And i just read some of their character profiles, which some of them are good, others just cry "CORNY PLAGERISM"......

i'll stop ranting now.....

i think i'll visit there again and try to change my mind...i don't like saying bad things...i think them deleting Dave's and Heather's post had a little affect on me...
