Background:Rafael Dixon was born and raised in Amherst Junction, a very small town lost in the middle of Wisconsin. His parents run the local drugstore. At the age of 18, fresh with a high school degree, Rafe left town and enlisted in the U.S. Army.

Soon after finishing his training and studies at Fort Benning, Rafe was transferred to a secret military organization known as ‘The Initiative’, and started serving in the Sunnydale branch. As the majority of the Initiative actives, he posed as a University of California student while he performed his duties as a commando under Professor Maggie Walsh’s orders.

During his time at Sunnydale’s facilities, Rafe made some life-long friendships including Riley Finn, Graham Miller and Susan Price, Forrest Gates and Evan Goodman. As the rest of the soldiers in the Initiative, he and his friends were unaware that Professor Walsh’s subjects, enhancing their performance through drugs, human/demon experimentation and behavioral conditioning.

In 1999, the Initiative was put to shame because of its corruption and human experimentation, and was closed by the government. During the process, many of Rafe’s friends were killed or just disappeared.

After that, Rafael Dixon joined another black ops Army unit and continued to fight demons wherever it was necessary. Some of his friends, the ones who had survived, also joined the unit.

Rafe continued to serve for many years, specializing in dealing with ‘hostile subterrestrials’ as the Army called demons and other supernatural beings, and when in 2012, it was decided to reopen the Initiative (with a complete different purpose this time, Rafe – a captain by then – was transferred to it again.

At the moment, Rafael Dixon is the Lt. Colonel in charge of the East Coast division of the New Initiative. He lives in N.Y., is married and has two kids.

The New Initiative

The Initiative was a secret US government organization that ran from the times of the Second World War to 2000, when the US government deemed it a failure and closed its operations. During the time preceding its closure, its biggest branch was located beneath the University of California campus in Sunnydale. Under the direction of Professor Margaret Walsh, military commandos captured and studied werewolves, demons, vampires and other supernatural creatures for the covert U.S. government operation.

Less well known was the fact that said commandos were also part of The Initiative and Maggie Walsh experiment programs. Well fit and trained men and women to begin with, they were ‘enhanced’ in their strength and durability by the use of a combination of drugs and supernatural DNA.

In 1999, after the ‘Adam fiasco’, the Initiative was put to shame because of its corruption and human experimentation, and was closed by the government.

However, following the Initiative's closure, the Army maintained operations in hunting demons, incorporating many of the Initiative trained soldiers, including Rafe Dixon. They hunted down demon nests in the United States, as well as foreign countries.

In 2012, the Army reopened the Initiative, The New Initiative, with completely different goals. They no longer seek to control and exploit supernatural beings, but protect people from demons and prevent demon threats from spreading.

Again, most former-Initiative actives were transferred to this new organization and continued their career in its lines. At present, Rafe sports the Lt. Colonel rank and is in charge of the East Coast division of the New Initiative.
