DESCRIPTION:
Fate is a dark-skinned vampire, standing six feet tall and weighing in at 190 pounds. He dresses impeccably, but always seems calm and at ease, even friendly and affable despite the elegance of his appearance. Fate's voice fluctuates wildly from a barely perceptible purr to a high-pitched, bluesman's wail depending on what the situation seems to require. He comes off as a charming, peaceful enough chap, but when sufficiently provoked, the darker side of his nature comes roaring to the surface.

(Fate is played by Mekhi Phifer)

BACKGROUND:
Terence Wilkins was born at a really awful time in America's history, and immediately found out that society deemed him an outsider based on his race. His parents, workers in the textile industry, struggled to make ends meet, and instilled in their son the importance of education to better himself. He was a bright kid, but had to learn on the sly since formal educational opportunities weren't always available to him. Terence was always on the hunt to find someone to teach him, and his insatiable curiosity found him in some of the oddest places, picking up bits and pieces of philosophy, history, and math - anything he could get someone to show him.

At the age of twenty he began to study martial arts with an old Japanese man, Grandmaster Hiroki Ishida, and in Ishida he found the teacher he had been looking for his entire life. Under Ishida's tutelage, Terrence learned everything that American society deemed inappropriate for a man like him to know, and became Ishida's most devoted follower.

Ishida's place, an old loft above an abandoned warehouse, seemed entirely out of keeping for a humble Japanese immigrant. It was filled with art treasures of several centuries, state-of-the-art technology, and an arsenal that defied description. It was then that Wilkins learned of Ishida's true nature for the first time.

Grandmaster Ishida was a four-hundred year-old vampire of immense power and wisdom, the last of a mystically-altered offshoot of Kindredkind that subsisted on spiritual energy rather than blood. Ishida's line was a progression of Masters and pupils, each Master bestowing the gift of immortality upon his most talented student. Ishida knew Wilkins was that student shortly after they met, and knew that the time of his transformation was at hand. Wilkins was not scared, and savoured the chance to have all of Eternity to sharpen his skills - after he took revenge on those who murdered his family.

Shortly after his transformation, Wilkins adopted the name Fate, got his revenge on the thugs that killed his family, and was finally at peace. Ishida spent the next thirty years training Fate in every form of armed and unarmed combat, and taught him how to forge and enchant weapons of his own to do battle with the supernatural foes he would be likely to encounter during his travels. Just as Fate learned to hone his weapons, he also learned how to hone his spirit, constantly striving to remain above reproach. The very energy of life flowed through him, and he made a vow to feed only when absolutely necessary, and to never kill while feeding unless absolutely necessary.

Ishida, having had four and a half centuries with which to amass wealth, assured Fate that he would never have to worry about money again, and set him up with a sizeable personal fortune. Fate's training complete, Ishida retired from human interaction to meditate on life at his cabin in the wilds of Alaska, leaving Fate to find his own way in the world. The lights and glitter of Los Angeles - and the darkness and corruption beneath the veneer - drew him as powerfully as a siren's song, and he made his way there in the year of 2005 to find whatever he might find there...

POWERS/ABILITIES:
Fate is a vampire, but not in the classic, Bela Lugosi/Anne Rice blood drinker tradition. He is still susceptible to crosses and sunlight, but he feeds by absorbing spiritual energy from his targets, the process always involving sustained physical contact.

Like most vampires his strength, reaction time, endurance, toughness, and senses are definitely superhuman, but he also possesses other attributes specific to his vampiric bloodline. Fate has the ability to grow claws capable of damaging even supernatural beings, is able to blend into the shadows effectively concealing himself, and can move at blinding speed for short amounts of time, but at the cost of a tremendous amount of spiritual energy. His metabolism is so rapid that he must feed every day, even if he uses none of his supernatural gifts, and criminals and vampires are his primary food sources. He will feed from innocents only if death is his alternate option.

ITEMS:
His only magical weapon is a katana he named "Chaosbreaker". Imbued with some of his own spiritual energy, the weapon is equally effective on natural as well as supernatural targets. Given sufficient time, Fate could also conceivably forge other magical weapons. Occasionally Fate will carry handguns of various calibre’s, as well as easily-concealable martial arts weapons (sai, nunchaku, sjamboks, etc.)
