Ready...set...go!
Okay there is enough functionality to get launched. The charater application is online:
http://latenightgames.com/legends/game/app.php
There is a need for villains and places and such. Please start creating them as soon as you get logged in.
Start telling friends and loved ones and loved friends and that sort of thing to get their asses over here and start signing up.
UPDATE
The game is almost underway. We've had alot of great character submissions, and hopefully we'll get a few more in the near future. Check back soon for official launch date (which should be about 1 weeks time)
Characters who have been accepted (who will recieve notification very soon) should start creating Villain profiles, aswell as post their character profile in the character profile forum. Also, dont forget to create write-ups for any organizations, or places which are critical for your character.
UPDATE
We keep getting lots of great characters, keep them coming. Official launch will be within the week. Make sure you keep checking back.
The game will start off with "Regular Series". This is when characters need not interact with each other. Your timeline does not have to keep up with other people either, (so long as you dont get too far away from everyone). This doesnt mean you CANT interact, just saying you dont have to.
After awhile of "Regular series" we're going to switch to "Mini-Series" In Mini-Series time, their will be one big storyline which affects all characters. During this time, Timeline consistency is important, aswell as character interaction. (but more on this later)
Anyways thats all for now.
UPDATE
READY.....SET.......WRITE
The game has officially started as of now. make sure when you post you click the "Regular Series 1" and click post reply. This is where you enter your stories. Do not create a new thread.
I hope to see your stories popping up in the very near future :D
Little Message
Hey Hey everyone!
Ok well A few new things. Until the site is completely up an running, I have given everyone access to the NPC forum and the Place/Organization forum. You can read whats there, but you cant post. Keep posting in the Bullpen and either Rick, Lou or myself will transfer them over.
Besides that, everything is going well. I must say all the stories are really great. Keep up the good work everyone
Some PR
Whats up True Believers,
Just a quick message. With the starting of Season 3 of LA By Night, there may be less posts from the cross over players, but dont worry, we are still around.
The main reason for this message was to ask people to do some Public Relations. By this I mean, if you visite other comic message boards and stuff, post the link to the game. We have great players, but not many of them. We need to expand, so spread the word.
OOps! My Bad!
I was starting to fill out the back pages and left some things unfinished FOR ABOUT 16 HOURS! Sorry! :( Bad Sysadmin.
Heroes and Villains
The hero and Villain Directories are up and most of the entries are in place.
For heroes I put the heroes that have character profiles in the profile forum. For Villainous character the same under villains.
PCs first then NPCs after. I will be finishing all the linking and will add an affiliation link to the PC directory so that you can look up a character and link from that to villains, organizations and places relating to that character.
As always help with this process will be appreciated.
ENNUI ?
Every new community has its problems when they first start out. Concidering the success of LABN I'm surprised and delighted that Fantastic Legends has been doing so well, in fact in just over a months time we'll be hitting our first official Season One story where players will be able to get together in writing a story of epic proportions!
This is an exciting time for our little game and I'm proud at how well the game has been progressing, there is alot of good quality writing being produced here and many exciting stories and well developed characters that, hopefully, will mean that Fantastic Legends will go the distance.
However, we've still got a long way to go before we break what I've come to regard as 'The LABN Spin-off Curse'. The Gameboard has seemingly ground to a halt at the moment and its even been a while since I spoke or heard from either of my fellow admin Ric and Shaun *waves* (Hi Guys! My first news broadcast! Aren't you proud!?) :D If you've suddenly found yourself busier than normal, let us know, same goes if you've lost your inspiration - there IS help out there!
Absense will always be a factor, I myself have taken a LONG time to get back into posting and keeping up with the forums since my holiday, and obviously since people are going back to school, college, university, priorities change.
Anyway, my point, (yes I do have a point here) is that we keep going with the game. If you're taking a break from the gameboard, post a message on the forums, take part in the ABC or Storylines Game, keep checking in and keeping up to date with new developments. (Aren't the new character pages rockin'? Well Done to Dave for all his work and for dragging himself away from Heather, ;) ) Also, we still need new players, so if you know someone out there with a passion for writing, let them know about us!
BFN!
UPDATE
Hey all, alittle update from yours truely.
Im in full agreement with everything Lou has mentioned before, and I wanna juts encourage everyone to keep writing. I know Ive been alittle lazy in writing for the gameboard, but forgive me I just started University and I need a bit of time to adapt. However that doesnt stop any of you from continuing your great stories. Keep up the good work all.
UPDATE
ciao a tutti!!!!!!!
this site is coming along real swell, naturally i assume that half of us are starting the new school year again (to which i wish u all good luck) those of u who arent :P ...
i "communicated" with dave in a way so that more people can do stuff with the site...if im not on msn, im at school or work...theres always the weekend to communicate, so we could still have some fun without interrupting our academics...
if this made any sense, solid :D ...if not, blame my Intermediate Cal prof...
hope to see most of u soon on the gameboard, as there will be a few new games going up...until then, arrivederci 8)
SQWEEE!!!!
As Amanda would say I guess ;) It fits the mood perfectly. Adam has his power back (now you can have a shave at last huh? No more cultivating that homeless tramp look!) hehe.
Not only that but things are moving again thanks to some frenzied posting in the Gameboard and some addictive games in the forums. It's bad news about MSN closing their chat rooms from 14th October, but I guess we'll get along, Dave has already created a chat room in LABN thanks to the good people at Freeserve! They won't stop us writing!!! :D
Just one last thing. We still really need some new players, especially with the first Crossover Extravaganza due to start pretty soon, it would be nice ot have new members signed in and posting before then so if you know a Marvel, DC comics or any other comic forum site post a link to Legends and lets get people over here!
Peace Out! :D
UPDATE
For those who might have missed it, the current Mini Series One has a revised end date of 16th November due to possible clashing with the end of Season Three of LABN.
In the meantime, keep posting as usual in the normal thread on the gameboard. The First Cross Over Extravaganza will start in just over a months time.
UPDATE
Just alittle update:
I know the board seems kinda dead, but dont give up hope. LABN is quickly coming to an end, and when it does, im sure people will once again flock back to FL since they will have more time.
Season One Important Info!
Okay peeps, we've got about a week until we officially begin the first Cross Over Extravaganza. I know things have been quiet of late but I'd really like to try and get things moving again to stick to the proposed revised start date of 16th November. LABN season three has more or less finished and was a great success, this should, hopefully, mean that people will have more time to spend on Fantastic Legends.
For the first post of Season One, I'd like it to be some kind of official broadcast of the 'conference' in Washington that we've all been discussing in this forum. I don't mind writing this though I might not be the best person for the job (we've had some great pieces written by Robin, Heather and Adam about the rise of Anti-Metaism so one of you guys might wanna have a stab at an opening post. If not, I'll try and put something up around the specified date.
As with LABN I think we'll keep the Mini Series One forum open for a week or so after the end date, but after that it will be locked and all posts must be in the new Season One Cross-Over thread.
Happy Writing!!
UPDATE
Cross OVER HAS STARTED!!!!!!!
Ok Everyone, lets get this story rolling. Remember you have to follow the continuity of other players now. So make sure you keep up with what people are writing. Like stay within the time frame....we've jumped ahead to Nov 2003 already, so if you have something that happens before that, put as like a flash back. anyways have fun all, cant wait to see all your awsome posts
UPDATE
One last thing, Im closing the monthly series one post in like 2 days, so make sure eveything you needed to take place there you post soon.
UPDATE
Last call for Monthly Series:1 posts !!!!
Tonight, im going to lock that topic, so if you really have to have written something that will come before Novemeber gametime, you best put it up today :P
ANNOUNCEMENT
Monthly Series One is now officially closed, as was previously mentioned - any posts covering time prior to the 16th of November should be posted in the form of a flashback, dream sequence etc, etc, there are plenty of ways to write something like this so no need to stress out if you're still a little behind on time.
The First Crossover has begun and we already have a number of posts in that thread. At the moment the most important thing to do is to get your character to Washington DC (before summit meeting is over would probably be best) after this time it may be a little more difficult (seeing as the city will be effectively locked down) but certainly not impossible. Keep writing, I think we'll have a lot of fun with this!
Just one sad note, Saadia has decided to leave us for the time being  It's always sad to lose players but frequently happens due to other commitments. We currently have 15 members, 8 of which are quite active the other 7 are less so. This is probably an LABN crossover problem which means it would be quite nice if we had more solo players (like Mike) who had more time to devote soley to Fantastic Legends. So if you know anyone out there who might be interested in joining our little group of writers drop them a link and let's sign a few more people up. :D
Peace Out!
UPDATE
Hey HEy,
So season 1 is coming along. We just need people to arrive in Washington now. So everyone get your arses in gear!
Besides that, just keep on truckin' !
HAPPY 2004 FANTASTIC LEGENDS!!!
Okay, well this is a belated glad tidings to all, and happy 2004 for everyone on Fantastic Legends, which, except for Mike :D is the same motley crew from LABN!!
We've hit a bit of a slow patch of late which is to be expected during the holidays, but hopefully it will pick up now we're in the new year. I have to admit, I've slacked off on a lot of my Admin duties since coming back from holiday, I'm still behind on the timeline but I PROMISE to get things back up to date in the next week or so.
And thanks to Robin, for making me collab and get my interest in Sydney rolling again! *Tries to think of some cheesy end line...*
Let's make it a FANTASTIC, LEGENDARY 2004!!
Cheese Factor: 10/10!!!
UPDATE
ok the game is starting to pick up some steam. Come on peeps, lets keep it rolling.
UPDATE
There I think that says it all.
*Lou kicks Shaun's ass for plagiarising her* :D
UPDATE
It was expected, it was inevitable and it's officially happened. The end of the current Crossover Series One has been moved back to March 31st 2004 (since we have to superbly missed Feb 16 and are unlikely to catch up in the next few weeks). I didn't really want to do it but like I said, it was inevitable.
We've had some problems before (and will probably continue to) because of season dates coinciding with those on LABN. At present LABN is coming to the end of Midseason, about to his Season Four (for people not in the know). That's the main reason why we've been faltering lately, not lack of enthusiasm. There are some really good storylines shaping up out there but I think it's definatley time to head towards the big season finale (which some people are already on collision course for anyway.)
So that's all I really wanted to say, in the future I'm going to try and make sure that the end of a Fantastic Legends season is somewhere in the middle of a current LABN one, hopefully that will allow more people time to write without feeling the pinch from our sister game.
Apart from that, keep writing guys!!
Peace Out! :D
48-Hour Notice
This is a sort of heads up for anyone with any outstanding posts for the Cross over series thread. I have the finale at the airfield all edited and ready to go up and I'll post it in the next 48 hours, hopefully giving people time to get anything BEFORE it finished and posted before that deadline. I've been quite slack finishing up the timeline and getting round to my admin duties - especially with Shaun and Ric both, pretty much abandoning me (thanks alot you guys :P). But I think it's about time this thread was finished off and we can finally get out of this limbo state.
After that I'm going to lock up the cross over thread and any posts will have to go in the second mini-series - no arguments ;)
So, speak up now if you have any problems. :)
UPDATE
Have you ever stared at the text on a page for days and days and days and wondered, *When is someone going to change that text to something even slightly more interesting?* I have.
Then I remembered. I'm an admin and I can change anything I want. So I have. No becasue what was there was somehow deficient or bad in any way, just that it had been there long enough.
I mean really, isn't a month long enough to have a 'heads up' post on the front page? Isn't it? Guys?
Hello Again! We're not Dead!!!
Okay so, I don't have any news but I also couldn't stand seeing the same old 'news' - surely that's a contradiction in terms - for the past five months! Yeah, alright, I'll admit that's my fault, life (and LABN) got in the way of any major posting or updates to FL in the last few months, but surely I could have thought up some interesting little anicdote to amuse ya'll with right?
Wrong. Sorry, that's why you're gonna end up with a load of my ramblings while I aimlessly hope to find something funny/clever/amusing to entertain you with. Alas, as you will have noticed by now, I have none - except writing in this ye olde manner which I just think is kinda funny, isn't it? Not even just a little bit?
Ah well, it's not like anyone USUALLY listens to me anyway *sob* so I'll just have my mental breakdown in peace... unless someone IS reading this 8O *MEEP* I think I'm gonna have a lay down, see you in another six months...
UPDATE
AVENGERS ASSEMBLE!!!!!!!!
Ok, so maybe not Avengers, but FL players. I know the game has hit a rough patch and alot of us havent written for awhile (me being the worst of all of you im sure) but its time to get back into it. LABN is in Midseason and we dont need to concentrate so much over there, so put effort into keeping FL alive, and not following in Mythos or whatever (see we dont even remember its name) footsteps.
Hacker Attack!!
On Deceber 21, 2004 a hacker maliciouosly and deliberately attacked the Friedbaloney server where Late Night Games is hosted. They did so through a security exploit in phpBB - the LateNightGames software - that was only announced at the end of December.
Consequently everything went down. And - indirectly it was my fault becasue I more or less left the door open.
So I have had to upgrade all of the software for phpBB to the latest version which closes the hole. Unfortunately it means that all of the nice mods that had been added in are now gone.
I'll gradually add them back in. But for now, sorry to say, they are gone.
I'll start working on it as soon as I insure that everything is completely secured.
UPDATE
I wonder if this game has dropped dead. It has been nearly 2 weeks since the last post. I myself posted a query a week ago and haeard nothing. Hello? Is anybody out there?
UPDATE
Okay, it isn't dead. It is just barely berathing. I discovered the random power thing on the application isn't working, I'll have to fix it.
We need players, badly.
And a dose of enthusiasm.
And I need to get my own ass in gear and post the setup for the Amusement Park of Evil crossover.
A lot of needs. Anyone caring to help?
Wha' Happen?
There was a drive-by of a visitor who came in to look around and left without either joining or leaving a note. So i am going to have to say (with regret) that if we can't get either a new member or game post in the next two months that I'm going to pull the plug.
The last game post was Jan 28th. Today is March 8th. It's been 4 days since the last board post. So as much as I hate to say it...this was a grand idea, but It needs some new life or it'll expire and join its siblings Mythic and Zion3.
Well, Legends is more-or-less back on the air.
We've had a story post and the board has been reinstalled from scratch with most of the MODS it had before. Our version of the "ComicBook" theme had some very customized differences between the standard version that I am struggling to remember what they all were.
The most noticeable one was that the page width was wider and that the font wasn't ALL CAPS. Those have been taken care of. Others? I really couldn't say.
I did change the logo. If you really hate it, let me know, I'll do another one. Or replace it with the old colored-lines one. Or if you want to design one of your own...go right ahead.
Let's cross our fingers and see if this thing holds together.
The sky is falling! The Sky is falling!
Okay it's just a joke, but based on Other discussions it might just happen. In game of course. not on the front page...becasue that would be...well...foolish.
Moving to New Home
It is my intension to move the Legends game forum to merge with the LABN forum to create a "true" Late Night Games forums. This will likely involve a lot of swearing and cursing and general mayhem. Not to mention backups backups backups. But in the end I hope to have merged the two forums. It might may involve shutting down LABN for a while to do it.
The date for this massive undertaking? Sometime during the week of the 17th - the 23rd. I am not sure which day, but for certain it'll be during 9am-5pm easter times as those are the slowest times of the day for the board.
I am warning you now so you don't wander in and wonder where everything went.
It is done. The operation was a success.
In case nobody noticed, Legends is now merged with LABN, Mythic, and SW:T. This is important becasue it'll mean a modified place for the forums as well as new things. Of course now a lot of the character sheets are broken and the content is woefully out of date.
It'll take a while to get this back up and running the way it is supposed to. But soon, my prettys soon.
In the meantime, come to the board, read, and join whatever game you enjoy.
The Coming Age
Fantastic Legends: "The Rise of the Heroes" is now Fantastic Legends: "The Coming Age"
This is a short "mid-season-ish" that will cover the time between 2003 and 2010 and is open for stand-alone narrative, news stories and mementos. Single adventures (if needed) and sweeping changes.
All Characters are considered to be "Open property" for this. This is to free up creative control for the players. Think of it like a comic book company.
You write "The Adventures of Hero X" and another writer who writes "The Amzing Captain Y" has a guest-starring part for Hero X. He might give you a call to ask about the finer points of hero X's character, but for the most part you have no recourse but to add that story to your continuity (even if you hate it).
You are free to write continuity to erradicate that event ("It was really a clone") or to explain abberrant behavoir ("He was under the control of the mind-dwelling Heebeejeebees") but you cannot ignore those events ("Captain Y? Nope, never met him.").
If you use another person's character you cannot change their origin, powers, physical appearance, or costume. You can't just re-make the hero like you want them to be. They have to go back to their own title exactly like they came into yours - with the addition of the experience if not any benefit.
This rule, if it works, may be a standard rule that will remain if it works. We can discuss it. But for now, write what you want with your people...and everyone else's too.
NOTE: If you have a serious problem with this idea, please please please put something in the FL private discussion to say so. I don't want to see anyone upset by this idea, I am just hoping it will spark some creative flow.
