NOTE: This is actually a character profile I wrote for "Slayer: A Twist of Fate". The idea was that I could wander in and out without driving plot. But as an NPC in LABN he will be a link between the two boards. I am posting him here as a freebie.

character_name = Redmond "Remorse" Morse
gender = Male
age = 56 (born Mar 27, 1949)
human = human
profession = Bum/Homeless Person
birthplace = Seattle Washington

physical_description = Redmond looks like a bum. he smells like a bum. He has a scraggly beard and stringy dirty hair. He wears an old pair of Aviator glasses with mirror lenses. He wears an Army surply jacket with many patches and symbols. He generally wears several layers. He also carries a long wooden staff which he uses like a blind man's stick to sense his way. Redmond is blind.

personality =
Redmond walks the streets during the daytime. He has usual places he goes. Post office, coffee shop, back alley ways and street corners. He never asks for money but people give it to him if they take the time to talk to him. Redmon may be blind but he can see a lot of things. He can sometimes tell the future, sometimes he sees the past. He always sees the truth.
His calm, rational voice surprises people expecting a crazy drifter. He is never pushy or violent, he just is. He does not sell religion, the plight of the handicapped or homeless, or the urban decay. He just listens and then tells them what he sees.
Redmond is not docile, however. Gangs, punks, and the undead have all come for him at one time or another. He can usually sense them coming. Then he reacts with precision and effective strikes using his staff as a weapon to subdue, drive away, or stake his opponents.

background =
1967 Redmond joins the Army and is strained and shipped to Vietnam.
1970 Redmond is re-trained as an elite commando working for Army Intelligence and is deployed to Cambodia
1972 Redmond is captured, denounced, and held in a Cambodian temple for 12 years.

"So you have the background," said the blind man, "and I appreciate the coffee and all, but what is it you want to know?"

The reporter leaned forward, Remorse could smell his deodorant. He was speaking too loudly. *Why does everyone assume blind people are deaf as well?*

"Its a human interest piece on homeless veterans. Everyone said you were a vet so I asked you first. Okay third since I spoke to a..." the reporter shuffled a notepad, "...Vito Simone, and a Michael Fleuherty I found at the VA hospital but they weren't very cooperative."

Remorse chuckled, "I imagine not since Vito still thinks he's in 'Nam. probably thought you were a spy. Mick is more of an addict these days than a soldier.

"Okay I'll give you the story. You won't use it because your editer will call it 'fruity' and 'lame' but I'll give it to you"

The reporter rubbed his arm where the goosepimples were rising.

"The first three years in Cambodia were the worst. Every few days they'd move me. Then as interest in the POWs started to relax I was dumped in a Cambodian temple. I don't know where it was but it was dark. I lived in a dry cistern for I don't know...eight years or so. My captors would throw food at me every few days. For water I had to make due with urine and dewdrops. "

The reporter made a face and redmond smiled at the fact he could hear him make it.

"One day some Intelligence type with an expensive tailored uniform and 3 guys who were taking notes had me dragged out of the hole and strapped to a set of springs. They tortured me forever."

Remorse lifted his glasses and the reporter gasped at the empty scarred sockets where his eyes should have been. "This is what they did when I told them I didn't know anything. And the sad part was I didn't. If I had I would have told them.

I remember crying out 'For God's sake can't you see I don't know anything?'

I heard a voice say 'FOR GOD'S SAKE' and then I could see. I could see these men rolling on the ground with their skin on fire. I could see their guts swell with the steam of their heated flesh and explode from their throats."

Redmond slowly sipped his coffee to give the reporter a chance to stop gagging.

"I was still tied to that spring for days until someone came to find me. They beat me mercilessly. I would tell one of them 'Why are you beating me, your wife is sleeping with your neighbor' or another one I would say 'Take your damn daughter to the hospital Ng, those doctors can save her!'"

Redmond's hand was shaking and he set down the cup as the waitress came to fill it.

The reporter was sobbing silently. Remorse had no tears. they had not left him any.

"Sometime in the 80's they told me that they didn't want me any more. I had been a prisoner for 12 years was unceremoniously dumped in some city. A monk found me and took me back to his temple. There I learned to live without sight." * and to live with what I see *

The reporter swore he would write the whole thing up. He clicked off the recorder and paid the bill.

Remorse watched in his mind's eye as the reporter went home and had his girlfriend leave him becasue he had not sold yet another story.

*Sorry pal, its just not your day *

skills_and_powers = Remorse has second sight. He can see glimpses of the future and the past and the lives of those he encounters. He cannot control what he sees but he is very good at getting nuggets of wisdom from the visions.
Remorse is blind but that does not mean he is helpless. Living in the city has given Remorse an edge that allows him to discern even subtle noises, scents, and vibrations around him. He has been trained by masters of Shaolin and does not need his eyes to fight. He prefers to use his staff as a weapon as it extends his reach and keeps attackers where he can hear them.
