Jade stands at a petite 5”4, with almond-shaped brown eyes and long, dark hair. She favours stylishly cut clothes that accentuate her slim figure, in vivid colours (red and black especially) that flatter her fair skin.

Background:
The Beginning
When younger, Jade had no reason to believe that she was any different from other girls. She was, however, inarguably more well-travelled than most. Her mother and father - Carrie and Simon - were both gifted diplomats with responsibilities that required the family to shift on a regular basis.
That was in part a blessing, for it allowed Jade to experience first-hand the wide By the time she was 15, Jade had lived with her parents and elder sister - June - all over Australia, Africa and certains parts of Europe.
Exciting as her life was, Jade spent a lot of time battling a growing sense of loneliness. Her family's constant "uprooting and re-settling" lifestyle meant that she had few friends, which made her parents and sister the most important people in her life. June, who was two years older, and her shared an especially close relationship.
The Transition
Just after her 20th birthday, Jade started suffering from nightmares. Her dreams all centered around the same setting with different nights bringing different fragments of a horrific scenario. A pregnant woman being dragged into a dark alley by a shadowy spectre... Terrified screams for help... Images of blood and death...
When Jade finally broke down and told her parents, she found out something that changed her life irrevocably. Carrie and Simon were not her real parents. She had been born to Carrie's best friend, Rose, after a liaison with a vampire called Valerian. Rose had not known about Valerian's identity till just before Jade was born, and had spent the last days of her life running from her nightwalker lover in a bid to protect her unborn child.
Shortly after Jade found out about her true parentage, Valerian tracked her foster family down and murdered each of them in cold blood... He blamed them for keeping his only child away from him, depriving her from developing her vampiric powers to their full potential. He also saw Carrie, Simon and June as obstacles in Jade's return to the dark side, correctly assuming that the love Jade felt for them would hold her back from giving in to him wishes.
The Hunt
For the 3 years following her foster family's death, Jade was constantly on the run. She ran... and hid, never staying in the same place for more than a couple of months at a time. Caught up in a vicious cat-and-mouse game, her only aim was to prevent Valerian from tracking her down. However, no matter where she ran to - Asia, Europe, Australia - Jade never felt truely safe.
The bulk of the money Carrie and Simon left her had run out by the time Jade decided to stop. At the end of 2004, Jade came to L.A. She hoped that in a city as populated as Los Angeles, there'd be a lesser chance of being found.
The Present
Jade decides to put the knowledge she's obtained from her extensive travels to good use and combines it with the many traditional practices of her Asian upbringing to set up a magic shop. XY opened its doors in the middle of January 2005 with its strange fusion of Eastern and Western cultures.
For the first time since the tragedy of 2001, Jade settles down and establishes something akin to roots. Season 1 of L.A.B.N has her befriending an interesting, if somewhat eclectic bunch of beings - vampire hunters, wiccans, battle fiends and faeries. Jade also meets Tristan Barrington, a hunter for the Society of Ulle, and ends up falling in love...
Powers & Abilities:
Shortly after finding out about her dark heritage, Jade began developing certain vampiric traits. Firstly, her healing abilities improved by leaps and bounds and she stopped falling sick. In no way does this mean she's invincible though... Jade is as easily hurt as the next human... She just recovers from injuries and illnesses much faster.
Time also seems to have slowed considerably, for Jade has not changed or aged much since. She's not sure if she's actually immortal and since the child of a vampire and a human had not existed before this, she has little means to find out.
Other than that, Jade is also considerably stronger than the average girl on the street. She's not had much experience in combat but the Wing Chun (a type of martial arts) training she uses to stay in shape keeps her agile and enables her to defend herself if the need arises.
Jade also has a vampire's heightened sensitivities - touch, smell, sight - characteristics which give her an edge. She's not psychic, nor can she read auras, but her instincts are definitely sharp and alert.
Finally, Jade's knowledge of the magical arts is considerable, if somewhat under-developed. What she knows come mainly from books... In reality, she lacks the actual ability / power to carry out anything beyond the simplest of spells.
Items
Jade has 3 items she holds dear. The first two are a delicate platinum and amber rose pendant and a leather-bound diary with a rosebud etched on its cover. Both belonged to Carrie, her adopted mother and are the only things Jade has to remember her by.
Jade gave the pendant to Sorrow just before a raid on the Beazor Complex, hoping that it would protect her beloved from the danger that was ahead.
The diary holds both Carrie’s and Jade’s journal entries, as well as several Chinese charms and incantations passed on from generation to generation.
The third item is a charm bracelet made of sterling silver and a variety of semi-precious stones / crystals. Jade obtained this piece of jewellery during her travels and uses it to aid her in whatever magic she is able to employ.
