charname: Leigh Morgan
race: Vampire
gender: Female
bdate: January/4/1989 Chicago
descript: A small girl of about 5”3’ inches in height. Her naturally pale skin was only emphasised when she was turned, giving her an almost glowing effect, she now hides her skin under layers of clothing. She has long, dark, auburn hair which is kept almost permanently in a plait down her back. Her green eyes are hidden behind dark glasses. People always notice her, even though that’s the last thing she wants…
history: Leigh Morgan was an average girl in High School. She wasn’t particularly good at her studies, or sport and would defiantly not ever be a cheerleader. She was popular, but she wasn’t a geek either. Like I said she was average. She was going to go to college, become a secretary for a rich company, marry a successful businessman and have a few kids.

It hadn’t seemed like a dangerous thing to do, I mean it was only ten minutes away, the open-all-hours corner shop down the road. So at 10:32pm on the 5th December 2006 Leigh drew her last breath while walking back to her home with a shopping bag containing a box of washing powder and a bar of chocolate.

The first hand grabbed her shoulder from behind and was quickly followed by another firmly covering her mouth. They pulled her out of sight of the main road into shadow. Another hand tore her scarf away, then her jumper. She still clutched tightly to the shopping bag as the freezing cold Chicago winter air hit her bare chest, only moments before two sets of fangs sunk into her flesh.

She screamed silently into her attacker’s hand. Her teeth scarped at the skin of the palm, she froze, unable to move as she felt the trickles of blood fall into her mouth.

The noises were unbearable, it was like a herd of elephants were trampling above her. She tried to cover her ears with her hands, but they hit something when she raised them. Something hard… but covered in a kind of padded fabric… Leigh opened her eyes quickly and looked around. She could just make out her body and the shape of the thing she was in… a coffin… She screamed and tried to breath. Her hands ripped the lining of the coffin and scrapped the wood beneath it. Splinters tore threw her skin, and her hands bled. No breath came to her, but she did not notice, she wanted to be out of her coffin. It was then that she felt it, it came to the surface, she felt her face change shape and her body grow stronger. It told her she was dead, it told her she needed to get to the surface to be free and it told her that she needed blood. It told her stories of her kind, of the ones who made her, of what they might achieve together.

It had taken hours, for Leigh to reach the top of her grave that night. Her grave was marked only by flowers and a wooden cross, whether a stone was ever placed on it she doesn’t know, she’s never looked at it since.

It hadn’t taken her long to find her first victim. A teenaged boy walking on a pavement in the early hours of the morning. He had it coming really, everyone knows the streets aren’t safe to walk alone at night. Leigh looked at him through her new eyes, she could see the vain in his neck pumping, smell the richness of his blood. Her body ached for the crimson liquid. Her fangs were sharp, ready and aching for the kill. You want him, so take him the beast inside instructed her. And so she had.

She had grabbed the boy, pulled him into her body and exposed his neck. She missed the vain with her first bite, the boy struggled and she could taste his fear. The beast inside rose again, she didn’t miss the vain ever again. She had stepped over the boys limp form, wondering for a moment if she had looked the same when her body had been found? She looked again, thinking that she should feel guilty or something, but she didn’t. She had given the boy a kick, nothing, not an emotion in sight. Leigh considered this as she walked towards her old house.

The house had appeared deserted from the outside. No lights, no noise, only the quietest sounds of chest rising. The front door had opened easily with a little bit of force. Her room hadn’t been touched, the teddy bears, the open text book... it was as if time had frozen, which of course for Leigh it had. She grabbed a bag and started filling it with clothes and money. It was then that she noticed the mirror… she held the bag up watching it appear to float, she put her hand against it and smiled, she was a nobody now, she told herself.

She changed from her torn white dress she had been buried in, into black clothes pausing only for a second to watch the boys blood as it flowed through her veins. She covered as much as possible not wanting the whole world to see the precious liquid that gave her life flowing through her pale skin… that was her eyes only. It was time to start anew.

Her parents bedroom door creaked as she pushed it, like it always did. She looked at the two sleeping people who had first given her life. She had no feelings, they were nothing to her any more, nothing but prey. “I’m not your little girl anymore… but you gave me life” she whispered before bending down to bite her fathers neck.

They looked like they were sleeping, they looked at peace. Leigh glared for a moment at the bodies, she then turned on her heel and left the room, her house, her old life behind.

Leigh travelled, moving from town to town, learning her about new self. Vampire, that’s what they called her. She killed when she needed, she killed to test herself to see if she could feel… anything. An emptiness soon took hold of her, there had to be something for her in her new life? So she searched, rarely meeting other vampires and avoiding them when she could.

“You look lost child” one had said to her sometime in late January. She eyed him, he must have been in his forties when he had been changed, she could see the wrinkles in his skin, she could feel his beast behind it, it was strong. He had approached her, “I know what your looking for. I could show you, show you the wonders of the kill, the hunt…”

She had turned to walk away only to find him in her path. “You should learn to respect your elders child” he hissed at her.

Her beast rose inside her, and she looked through its eyes, “you have nothing to offer me” she growled in a voice she didn’t recognise. The vampire’s eyes widened as he backed away into the shadows, she has never seen him since.

As she approached Los Angeles, she felt drawn to the place. The city full of lost souls, was where she hoped to find her purpose, hoped to find something to take away her emptiness. She had barely been undead for three months when she took her first step in the city of angels…

items: Bag of clothing and a few other bare essentials.
powers: Basic vampire powers
played_by: still thinking about it...
player: Hi, I’m 18 years old. I live in Manchester in the UK. I’m a university student (studying archaeology), who loves writing. I’ve only done one rpg before and that was years ago and based on the characters from Laurell K. Hamilton’s Anita Blake Vampire Hunter series (very good series, I recommend you read them!) I also write fanfic and original stuff. How did I find this? Well Saadia is in my hall and suggested I joined, and I thought it looked fun!

Okay let me tell you guys a bit more about the player, well thats Helen, and an all round buffy ethusiast just like me....

so much so that some of us got together and formed our own "Sci-fi and Fantasy Society"....Helen here has done lots of fanfic, and lots of poetry writing and also has one of her poems published....

btw, she is also the creator of the word "Gurks"...just wanted to add that one....

I know i'm being biased on this, but i really did love her charcter profile, its upto you guys to decided though, we'r both waiting for the results with our fingers crossed...

I actually quite liked her too! As far as i can recall, we don't have any regular, run of the mill, active vampires playing (especially after the NVAMPS, we're running low on asses to kick)

I'm not sure what others are looking for, precisely, but it's well written (to me... cos we all know how great my ability is to wield the english language   ) AND they don't control the powers of the universe, whilst claiming the crown of Miss Universe whilst ALSO enjoying a special 13298721st birthday brunch with the Royal family, who they decided to invite on a whim, at the same time!

They sound enthusiastic, not to mention the added bonus of them being a friend of Saadia just means that we have Saadia to kick her ar*e into gear if she's not posting  hehe

anywhos, that's my 2cents  i'll just mosey back over to my little corner and play with my new original buffy movie on DVD... or better yet: i might even watch it, hehe, SQWEEE!

I have to agree, I do like the thought of more run of the mill vamps. My one concern (And lack of votingness at moment) is the simple question: how many players can we support? It takes time to fully absorb new people into the community, so to speak.

So! If everyone thinks we can support another, I say go for it. :)

As is my wont, I start making my judgements from the get-go and modify them as I read, if the submission warrants it. And this one started out on the negative for me... Vampire (yeah, yeah), glowing skin, noticeable hair and eyes (yeah, yeah) - so my initial reaction was "Mary-Sue". Then I got to the bit where Helen wrote the transition from the turning to clawing her way out of the coffin, and the positive points really started to build up.

Helen's writing shows a good grasp of story elements, and that she's really thought about her character's personality. I got a real feel for how Leigh would play in the game through this submission.

And the "Mary-Sue" elements? Well, after the first couple there weren't any more. As Amanda said, no umpteen thousandth birthday party upcoming... no special powers. No hint of her being "vampire-plus". She's a brand new vampire and that's it. It's quite refreshing, really.

My only quibble of any sort, and it's fairly minor, is the entry into her parents' house without an invitation. Leigh was dead, and couldn't invite herself. Maybe an invitation could be inferred if there was a key left out in a hiding place only the family knew of - but the new vampire forced her way in. It's a very minor point, and can be easily corrected, but it's worth letting Helen know now that if she's to play a vampire she needs to remain consistent with the Buffyverse rules for vampires.

So on the submission alone, definitely the sort of player we'd like to see on the board, especially since she already has a connection with one of our other players. But then comes the other issue - space.

We invited four new players for this mid-season and usually we get about a 50% start rate. This time, though, Meghan and Neil have already got their storylines well under way and Nick has done quite a bit of preparation on his werewolf concept, indicating that he'll be posting soon. That means only Morachd (whatever his real name might be) is the only non-starter. This means there's not really a lot of space left over.

Tough call... But frankly, it's midseason and at this stage we can probably afford to have one or two extras. Midseason is the time for people to explore their own stories without the pressure to interact (though interaction is always fun), and if new players are to begin, it's the best time for them. And midseason is also the time where sometimes we lose people. It's always sad to see it happen, but it's inevitable that there will be attrition and this is the time that it usually happens.

The long and the short of that whole ramble is - I say we let her in now and see how she goes.

I actually don't see that as much of a quibble since there clearly ARE times when an invite is implicit - for example. Angel never needed an invite to enter Sunnydale High. Spike, so far as I know, never got one to enter the magic shop.

So far as I know, this is a case we've never seen dealt with on the show, of a vampire entering the house they lived in. I think it's plausible that an invite could be implicit in this situation as well. Simply because vampire Leigh has a number of direct psychological connections to human Leigh, which are probably sufficient, if not to make vampire Leigh a continuer, to at least make her a descendent.

Then again, my views on survival are quite bizzarre anyway. :)

Uh, Adam - that's because they were PUBLIC places. The show makes it perfectly clear (no doubt through Giles' exposition at some point) that vampires don't need an invitation for public buildings, only private homes. :)

But, I would like to point out again that I only raised the issue to let Helen know that she needs to be careful when addressing the established tenets of Buffyverse - and really should have come up with some reason why she could just force her way into a private house (even if it used to be hers when she was alive). Even Angelus needed an invitation by his sister to enter his old house just after he was turned.

IIRC, these are the rules...

Vampires cannot enter any private human residence without an invitation as long as the owner lives.

  • Vampires cannot enter...
    • They are prevented entry by an invisible barrier.
    • The barrier does not allow them to batter, break or force their way past.
    • The barrier does not prevent them from throwing things through the portal, breaking window panes, forcing objects through the portal.
    • The barrier does not prevent vamps from dragging out residents who foolishly allow the Vamps to grab them at doorways and windows.
  • ...any private human residence...
    • Rental properties are private residences. Even if the rental is short term (like a hotel room).
    • Once admitted to the building, vampires can enter any room that is not a seperate residence (so a private room in someone's home is open if the vampire can enter the home).
    • The barrier does not exist for demonic residences or the residences of other vampires. ONLY humans are protected. (presumably lycanthropes are likewise exempted)
  • ...without an invitation...
    • "invitation" is very broad and can be interpreted in many ways.
    • An implied invite (a 'Welcome' mat, or a note that says 'Make youself at home, be back in 5 mins', et.al.) is sufficient.
    • An invite does not have to take place at the doorway (telling someone at a party to "come by anytime')
    • An invite MUST be delivered by a permanant resident of a home (a visiting friend cannot accidently invite someone in, but your little sister could)
    • Anything permanantly part of your home that can be interpreted as an invite is fair game ("Come to me all ye who seek knowledge"). but the vampire must see and recognise it as an invite. (so if they read the inscription becasue it is overgrown they are blocked unless they uncover it).
    • An invite can be revoked by a ritual that is easily performed by ameteur spellcasters.
  • ...as long as the owner lives.
    • Abandoned homes, vacant homes, vacant apartments, unused vacation homes (no permanant residents), and homes in foreclosure (no legal resident) are all open to vampires.
    • The barrier disappears the moment the owner dies, even if there is an heir to claim the property.

okay so I was bored... and wrote this for a little laugh... then showed it to Saadia... then somehow found myself being talked into putting it here... oh well here it is:

Leigh eyed the red boots suspiciously, something wasn’t right and she didn’t just mean the sudden appearance of the boots in her bedroom. She flipped over the brown tag, that hung from the boots by a piece of blue twine, it had written on it in clear printed writing:

Mortal Ass Kicking Boots

At this Leigh raise a curious eyebrow. She dropped the card and poked the left boot. Finally convinced the boot wasn’t going to eat her, she warily picked one up. She’d barely lifted it above the ground before dropping it again. She held her hand over her face, trying to not breathe in the sudden stench that come from the boots.

With her final look at the red boots one thought crossed Leigh's mind before she hurled them out of window, *they would never have matched the outfit…*
