I sent the following email to my local friends, family, and co-workers. Now
I am asking for support from my LABN friends and family. (Sorry to Kristen
and Ad who are getting this twice. I guess I'm supposing you two will need
either a reminder or prodding of some sort. Hehe.)

As many of you know, one of the events I look forward to each year at the
beginning of May is the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. This year Las
Vegas will be hosting its 10th Annual Breast Cancer Race on May 7th on
Fremont Street in the Downtown area. This will be my third year walking and
I am spreading the word early for those of you who would like to join me. I
have spoken to my company’s head nurse and Ethel M Chocolates will be
participating this year. Those of you who would like to walk with me can
join our team. The entry fee to walk is only $25. (For all of my local
friends and family who are interested, I will send you more information in
the next week or so.)

In addition to spreading the word about this walk, I am also asking for
donations. Breast cancer awareness is something I feel very strongly about.
It is estimated that this year alone over 200,000 new cases will be
reported. Each and every woman is at risk and here’s why: globally, one
woman is diagnosed with breast cancer every 30 seconds and 40 women die from
this disease every hour. But some of you may be surprised to know that men
can develop breast cancer as well. By the end of 2005, men will account for
approximately 1400 cases of breast cancer reported. For those who are
educated and catch this horrible disease in time there is a 95% survival
rate!! That is why spreading the word and educating people is so important.
I thank each and every one of you who have donated to me the past two
years and I look forward to your support this year and in the future.
Please give what you can. Some of you are blessed with good fortune and can
afford to give those larger gifts and I hope you will. But in my heart I
feel that even giving one dollar is one dollar more that researchers can use
to further their studies. 75% of the monies raised will go towards programs
right here in Las Vegas. The other 25% goes towards the national research
center.

I encourage each and every one of you to visit the Susan G. Komen website
and read more about breast cancer and its risk factors. There is also a
shop where you can purchase pink ribbon items to show your support. 50-80%
of the proceeds from the online shop go towards national funding.

I also encourage each of you to pass this information on to your friends,
family, and co-workers who may never have heard of this organization.
Education and awareness are crucial in fighting this disease.

For those of you who live here in Las Vegas I do have a collection envelope

Unfortunately, I do not have an online donation site set-up this year. For
those of you who wish to donate online, you can do so at either of the above
listed websites. Donations are tax-deductible. If there is an option, I
would appreciate you sponsoring my name.

Thank you again to each and every one of you.

With love and gratitude,

Feel free to email me with questions and please let me know when you make
your donation so I can give you a proper and heartfelt thank you.
