PRESS RELEASE:

Joss Whedon and Mutant Ally productions are announcing a deal with newly-formed Paradox Studios to produce a 13-episode mid-season replacement series called "Meta Four"

The show focuses on the lives of four meta-gifted individuals who find each other and band together for mutual support and defense. Stanly Tucker describes the show as "an edgier version of The Fugitive where we can use the medium to explore what motivates both Metas and Humans to have conflict."

Jos Whedon's previous television successes include "Buffy: The Vampire Slayer" and spin-off program "L.A. By Night". Series creator Joss Whedon explains that "the four characters each represent elemtal forces at work in our lives. They are metaphors themselves for real life difficulties we are all seeking to control or at the very least come to terms with."

The four forces that Joss is discussing are the four main characters of Meta Four:
Tim "Powerball" Hawkins: Tim was a normal teenage football star who discovered he had the ability to charge ordinary objects with energy. This energy makes objects becme dangerously volatile. He struggles with concerns that his power is both dangerous and potentially lethal.

Lisa "Fine Tune" Jenkins: Lisa was a backup singer for a country music artist when she discovered that people tended to listen to her voice more than the star. As her power developed she discovered she had the ability to influence mood and even thoughts as long as she was singing.

Oscar "Black Watch" Green: Oscar was a construction worker who discovered he had the ability to stop and even reverse time locally within a few yards of his location. Keeping time under control is very straining on this former blue-color employee but it has saved his life and others on numerous occasions.

Leon "Sprocket" Newman: Leon's ability is the freakish ability to become any machine. He physically changes into plastic, metal and wire then transforms into any device or vehicle no mater how fantastic or amazing. Changing back however is often confusing and disorienting as he is disconnected from reality when he transforms.

These characters are pursued by the Government in the form of FBI Agent Kyle Freemaker. Kyle is portrayed as being both sympathetic to the Meta's plight (his brother is a Meta whom he often consults with) and dogged in his attempts to get them to turn themselves in so that he can allow them to return to relatively normal lives.

Kyle also has to deal with varying levels of beaurocratic involvement from factions that want to dispose of these four metas to ones that want to turn them to their advantage.

Meta Four is an adventure series that will explore in-depth the lifes of these four Metas and the issues they face. They will make choices in how to use their powers that will influece their development and how the outside world (through Kyle Freemaker) reacts to them.
